Please mark your calendars for June 5th at 6 pm for a presentation celebrating the 125th anniversary of James Weldon Johnson’s hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and the writer’s legacy and connection to the Berkshires.
In the spirit of the DowMel Lecture Series once hosted by Monument Mountain Regional High School, Rufus and Jill Jones, founders of the James Weldon Johnson Foundation, will present a history of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and explain why the National Football League plays it before the National Anthem at their games.
The public is welcome, and the event is free.
