“What to the Slave is the 4th of July?”, Frederick Douglass’ speech, is read by the youth of Pittsfield

Frederick Douglass was born a slave in Maryland in 1817. After escaping, he became one of the leading abolitionists of his day as well as a famous writer and orator. He delivered this famous speech in Rochester, New York on July 4th 1852.
