2020 Freedom Fund Awards
The NAACP, Berkshire County Branch will be hosting its annual Freedom Fund Awards event virtually on Saturday, January 23 at 7 PM.
The annual event raises money to provide stipends to students of color in Berkshire County that are planning on attending college the following year. The NAACP, Berkshire County Branch is also pleased to announce the following recipients of this year’s awards:
- Rachel Fletcher, W. E. B. Du Bois Freedom Award recipient
- Sandra Burton, Baba Chuck Davis Freedom Award recipient
- Lori Murphy, Margaret Hart Freedom Award recipient
The event is free and open to the public via Zoom but rolling registration is limited and donations to support the student stipends are encouraged. The program will also be live-streamed on Pittsfield Community Television (PCTV) and the NAACP, Berkshire County Branch, and PCTV Facebook pages.
Join us in celebrating these three incredible women, supporting our local students of color, and hearing from our incredible keynote speaker, Deesha Philyaw.

Philyaw’s debut short story collection, The Secret Lives of Church Ladies, was a finalist for the 2020 National Book Award for Fiction.
