Berkshire Immigrant Stories Project

Do you remember the BERKSHIRE IMMIGRANT STORIES PROJECT?

The Berkshire Immigrant Stories Project was a grant funded program at BCC from 2016-2018 in collaboration with the Tenement Museum, the Housatonic Heritage, and MassHumanities. The stories highlight immigration and migration stories of the past and the present. Each story reveals one person’s family experience. Collectively, the stories tell America’s story and highlight the patterns that bind us together, no matter where we came from or how long we’ve been there. Our goal was always to GIVE HOPE & INSPIRE OTHERS! Read all stories here: https://yourstory.tenement.org/…/berkshire-immigran…/explore

We are very excited to be entering the next phase in collaboration with the Norman Rockwell Museum and their upcoming exhibit Finding Home: Four Artists’ Journeys.
Come and record your immigration story or the one of your ancestors (in audio or video) on:

Wednesday, September 18, between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM in G-12
or
Friday, September 27, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM
in G-12. You can stop by for 10 minutes or half hour, whatever you like.

Please share the dates with your students and contact Toni Buckley for questions and more info. ***FORUM credit is available***

Don’t know where to start your story? With the support of Eleanore Velez, Karen Ruiz-Leon, and myself we will be there helping you to find and identify the story you want to share. You can also enjoy delicious Hispanic food in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month on both dates.

• Why did I leave my home country?
• What brought me to the United States?
• What did I expect from this journey?
• Who support me in this great adventure?
• Can I think of something or someone that/who is representative for my immigration story?
• Is there an object that reminds me or is symbolic for my journey?
• How did I feel when I left “home”?
• What is home to me?
• Did I find home in the Berkshires? How?

Please let me know if you have any questions and also if you can’t make either of the two dates. I will make sure we find another opportunity for you to record your story!
