General Membership Meeting May 6, 2026

What Comes After No Kings? Five Things We Can Do for Democracy

The NAACP Berkshire County Branch, Indivisible Pittsfield, and Greylock Together will host Harvard professor, author, and democracy advocate Danielle Allen at its May General Meeting on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 6:00 PM via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public.

Allen will present “What Comes After No Kings? Five Things We Can Do for Democracy,” exploring the policy innovations needed for a healthy, resilient democracy. As convening chair of the Coalition for Healthy Democracy, Allen calls on all of us to envision what we want our democracy to look like, how it should function, and who it should serve—an approach she describes as “democracy renovation.”

Allen is a leading scholar of political philosophy and public policy, as well as a civic leader working to strengthen democratic institutions. Her concept of democracy renovation focuses on reconnecting people to civic life and redesigning political systems so individuals have the tools to participate effectively—and leaders have the incentives to deliver responsive, accountable governance.

She is the author of Our Declaration and Justice by Means of Democracy, and founder of multiple civic initiatives, including the Civics and History Inquiry Partnership and Educating for American Democracy. She also serves as convening chair of the Coalition for Healthy Democracy, a Massachusetts ballot initiative effort focused on all-party primaries and public records transparency.

Branch members will receive the Zoom link via email. Non-members may request access by emailing Naacpberkshirecounty@gmail.com with the subject line: “Five Things We Can Do for Democracy.”
