People across the nation, regardless of their political affiliation, are making clear that corporations or unions should not be able to spend internal funds to influence elections. I urge you to support the call for a 28th Amendment to the Constitution that restores that fundamental promise of our Republic: government of, by, and for the people.”  – Alan Simpson, Former Senator (Republican-Wyoming)

This effort is part of a national strategy led by American Promise to empower citizens in all 50 states to win a 28th Constitutional Amendment to get big money out of politics and combat government corruption. Your input is vital!  You are invited and encouraged to give oral and/or written testimony at this meeting. Oral presentations will be limited to approximately 3-5 minutes, to be determined by the number of attendees. There is no restriction on the length of written testimony.  Please bring your stories about how this issue affects you, your life, your family, your community, your business, etc.  Feel free to arrive and depart from the meeting at any time that is convenient for you. Also feel free to come to listen and learn without testifying. Bring your kids to learn about democracy in action!.

The Citizens Commission resulted from a law passed by 71 percent of Massachusetts voters in a citizens ballot initiative in November 2018. Currently, the Commission is holding Town Hall Meetings across the Commonwealth to receive input from MA citizens regarding their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and suggestions related to getting big money out of politics. The Commission will be represented this evening by Jeff Clements, President of American Promise, Citizens Commission member, and author of the book Corporations Are Not People.

In an independent 2019 study by the the University of Maryland, 66% of Republicans and 85% of Democrats support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United vs. FEC and allow for sensible regulation of campaign financing.

Parking:  On-street parking will be available on Allen St.and in the bank parking lot across from the Allen St. entrance to the church. On-street parking is also available on East St., and in the municipal parking lot near the corner of Fenn and First Streets.
