Dr. May Edward Chinn who was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on April 15, 1896 will be honored on the anniversary of her 127th birthday by members of the Du Bois Freedom Center, the NYC Committee to Honor Doctor May Edward Chinn, and the local community. The program will honor Dr. Chinn with music, poetry, and history.
Dr. Chinn was among the first Black women to earn a medical degree, the first Black woman doctor to practice and intern at the Harlem Hospital, the first to respond to emergency calls with an ambulance crew, and she contributed to the invention of the pap test for women.
